If you do not plan to watch the parade, you need on the side of the park you will want to. We found we could not from one side to the other during the parade because it away from the main rope.

That pretty much takes time out of yourDay (especially if you have to return to the car to go for your picnic).
If you eat in the park, decide to check in the various restaurants to find what's right for you. The nature of the food and the pricing does not vary from restaurant to restaurant. If you're a AAA member, you use your card for a discount of 10% at the Plaza Inn Restaurant.
Overall, Disneyland offers fun for the whole family, and although expensive is well worth the price of the memories created.
