This is the famous Perseid meteor shower. Here are some pictures from 2008 Taurid meteor shower. Normally, the Taurids are not much to see, but this year it passed the earth by a swarm of meteors. The meteors were behind the Comet 2P/Encke left. Although there was not an abundance of meteorites known as the meteor shower, there was an abundance of meteor fireballs. Fireballs are a meteor thats brighter than -4 or brighter than Venus.
