It may seem like the summer slips by too fast, but there are still tons of fun summer activities organized at Squaw Valley USA. Some of the highlights from this episode, a one of a kind experience in high camp, when the Perseid meteor shower lights up the night sky this coming weekend. Also save the date for the Brews Jazz and Funk Fest, coming up on 16 August. You do not want to be the top name acts on the bill and the great beers on tap are missing in the village. Live Music at High Camp and DiscoRoller-skating at the 8200 "round out the bill. Squaw Valley USA is the perfect place for a summer day or evening! ==================== For more information about Squaw Valley U.S. visit www.sqauw.com More Videos from North Lake Tahoe, visit http

I stood in my driveway and shot this panorama of the evening thunderstorms just above and behind my house. It was very intense, once they started. The local news reported 1000 Flash strikes per hour. It was like a long straight fireworks in all white light. It was incredible! The rain did not come down so we could stay outside and enjoy the thunder and lightning until late. The Perseid meteor shower is also going on, so we learned a little bit to see it throughClouds. What a night!

Here is my video of the Perseid meteor shower August 2009 for those of you who do not get the chance to see the real thing. There are a few small meteors and some large ones, to monitor closely. The video was taken from my home near Glasgow in Scotland. Watch it in full screen mode.

This is the most famous of the Perseid meteor showers. It's never not be an impressive and ready for their summer appearance, it tends to the majority of the meteors of non-astronomy fans can see. This meteor shower gets the name "Perseids" because it seems to radiate from the constellation Perseus. An observer in the Northern Hemisphere may begin to see Perseid meteors as early as 23rd July, when a meteor every hour or so could be visible. In the nextthree weeks, it is a slow build. It is possible, five Perseids per hour at the beginning of August and perhaps 15 per hour with the 10 August before the ground. The Perseids rapidly increase to a peak of 50-80 meteors per hour through the night of 12/13 and then rapidly decline to about 10 per hour up to 15 August.

Undoubtedly, the most recent pictures and videos of the Perseid meteor shower has a lot of people see on the Internet searches for Telescopes for sale hoping to get a first hand what is happening in our night sky had been received. Every year around August, the earth goes through what the comet Swift-Tuttle left 'and small particles of a comet colliding with the Earth's atmosphere create amazing streak of light as they burn. So what else is therelike to see?

Now viewing images from the Hubble telescope has made it clear that there is an amazing crowd outside. Because the images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the scientists new insights into our universe in terms of things like dark energy and black holes. They also calculated that the Earth is actually 13 until 14 billion years old, as compared to the previous estimates of between 10 and 20 billion. Unfortunately, there has been no sightings of little green menyet!

After some initial research for telescopes for sale on the Internet, you find that it basically only 3 types of telescopes, refractor, reflector, and Catadioptric. The Hubble is a reflector type telescope the size of a school bus with a weight of 24,500 lb and you could be in a position to a pick up for around 1.5 billion U.S. dollars. Since NASA is no longer maintaining the Hubble is perhaps we will be able to collect pieces of divided, as in the next few decades.

Size is noteverything! Or is it?

A telescope works by collecting large quantities of light than the naked eye and then a magnifying glass so we can see it. This means that if you are a telescope with a large aperture (size of the main lens), then be able to better images of the fainter deep-sky objects preserved.

Well, before you rush and is now the largest telescope you will find there are some other considerations.

If you use the telescope to view celestial objects onNight, then you have to be the bright lights of the city. The reason for this is that if it compete much light from other sources, then light from stars not in a position to.

Another issue is the pollution. You've probably noticed how the stars have a lot to see in nature in the built-up areas. Part of the reason why a Hubble primarily because the atmospheric distortion - which means the Earth's atmosphere, it becomes much clearer, undistorted view ofof the universe.

What all this means that the size and weight of the telescope is an important aspect if you will, we have seen it in a field of transportation for a good seat. Will your telescope fit in your car? Will you be able to contribute and to be able to arrange it on your own?

Another point is, of course, cost. Is this a potential new hobby and you are not sure how interested you stand in the implementation of a telescope, and to and from your car in the nearby fields, a small residenceexpensive telescope might make more sense at the beginning. As with most things, but you should be the best telescope you can find within your budget, because they do not buy, you will be limited if your interest is growing. Another possibility would be to join a club and see how you are really interested in before making a purchase.

I went to the Dent de Crolles, ie the night of the Perseid meteor shower meteors. The sky cleared up nicely with a sea of clouds in the valley below, the lights blocked from the cities below. Unfortunately it was too windy to fly the next morning, but my neighbor took me paragliding at the Col des Ayes, and brought me back to St. Hil - Thanks Laurent!
